Valley RC Flyers Meeting Minutes – June 16th, 2026

Facilities & Equipment
Safety Stations
- Upgrades are currently on hold due to the flying season.
- Plans to redesign them to be stackable and more wind-resistant (using PVC instead of orange fencing to reduce airfoil effect) will be revisited in the fall.
- Joe has a preliminary diagram.
Clubhouse Maintenance
Roof:
- Repair or replacement is pending discussion with Steve.
Painting:
- Discussion regarding painting the exterior (specifically the north, south, and back walls) to improve appearance and potentially deter graffiti.
- A trial on a back wall may be considered.
- Interior painting was discouraged to maintain the current aesthetic.
Ceiling/Electrical:
- Plans to complete the ceiling using OSB/plywood and finalize electrical wiring (via Andrew) to allow for future lighting and better utilization of the space.
Field Upgrades
Night Flying/Power:
- Discussion on installing 30-foot electrical poles at the north and south ends to provide night lighting and power stations (120V outlets) for battery charging.
- Quotes will be sought from Andrew.
Groundwork:
- Plans to fill low spots with dirt and use a roller on the north end in the fall.
Sanitation:
- Looking into purchasing more Jiffy Johns and implementing a more permanent hand-washing station (potentially a sink system) for events.
Membership & Administration
AMA Renewal
- Due in July.
- Dean/Gary will receive the renewal and process the payment.
Membership Count
- Approximately 60 members (includes standard, associate, senior, and youth members).
Upcoming Events
Annual Fun Fly (July 3rd – August 2nd)
Food:
- Joe has confirmed a food vendor.
- Discussion on providing simple food (burgers/hot dogs) via a Blackstone Grill for Thursday/Friday visitors.
Prizes:
- A P-51 Mustang (purchased on sale) will be used as a raffle prize or a "golden ticket" incentive for ticket sales.
Registration:
- The pre-registration system used last year (organizing AMA numbers and names in envelopes) will be implemented again to expedite check-in.
Promotion:
- To be handled via Facebook, FM events calendar, and news outlets.
Spectator Show/Pilot Events:
- Coordination regarding jet pilots (Ellis, Eric, Bruce, etc.).
- Emphasis was placed on ensuring all visiting pilots have valid waivers on file to mitigate club liability.
Skydivers:
- Joe is in contact with skydivers for a potential jump on August 1st.
Engine Tuning Seminar
- Johan Basson has offered to lead an engine tuning session.
- This will be proposed for the July 7th club meeting.
Car Show Proposal
- A local car club expressed interest in using half the field for a "boom off" (stereo competition).
- This requires a formal vote at the next club meeting.
New Business & Discussion
Starlink/Security
- The board discussed whether installing Starlink for internet or adding security cameras is cost-effective.
- The general consensus was that current mobile data/5G is sufficient and the cost-benefit for security/internet is low.
Other Local Events
- Noted several upcoming fly-ins in Minot, Bereford, Minneapolis, and Fergus Falls.
